Driving back to Chicago thru Quad Cities, I stopped for dinner at Black Watch. It was easy to find and the views onto the golf course were great, especially if you're from Chicago where most "views" are flat and urban. I had the 3 Cheese crusted Fillet that came with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. My friend had the herb crusted Halibut and, roast potatoes and grilled asparagus. My steak was cooked to med-rare perfection. The topping on the Halibut was excellent, the 3 Cheese crust was good but I prefer just Gorgonzola. I like asparagus if it is not too mature; theirs was just past "baby" and was nicely grilled. We filled up on the complimentary herb bread and did not leave room for dessert. The bartender mixed great Manhattan's and made sure I got one with lots of bitters. They had a good selection of tap beers; much better than I'd expect at a golf course. We did not drink wine and cannot comment on their selection. Venturing out to the patio area we struck up a conversation with the manager / owner. Very interesting to speak with and gave us a nice history of the place. Also met the golf pro and shared a drink as we enjoyed the sunset. Great food at a good price. I look forward to my next trip west so I can share a drink with the manager, try something else from the menu and sample their wine selection.

I don't remember having a meal this bad in a long time. We stopped here based on the stellar Yelp reviews, and immediately recognized it as a vaguely desperate attempt at an upscale restaurant out of any appropriate context, as exemplified by the outdoor patio overlooking the 'scenic' view of the mostly-green golf course and the brand-new subdivision houses. The menu for lunch has almost no vegetarian options, and even the meat options are heavy on the beef and pork. Luckily, (or so I thought), there was an open-faced portabello mushroom sandwich on the menu. I ordered it. It's my understanding that a sandwich involves some kind of carbohydrate component. How deluded I've been! This dish was a tiny, burned-up portabello mushroom with jarred roasted red peppers on it, topped with grilled asparagus and pepper jack cheese. The cheese had obviously been hot and melted at one point, but had re-frozen into a gummy dairy blanket on the once-innocent vegetables beneath it. The "totties" were no better, which our waittress promised were "better than french fries." Try-- an unappetizing version of homemade potato chips with inconsistent thicknesses and levels of floppiness versus crispness. My mom ordered the turkey reuben sandwich, which had also evidently been sitting out for awhile after it was first made. But the most egregious aspect of the meal was the visible caking of salt over both of our entire dishes. Everything on my plate was only made edible by brushing off the crystals of salt that burned my tongue with every bite. I choked down every ounce of the overpriced, miniscule lunch-- then filled up on baby carrots in the car!

I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews but was really, really disappointed. While the restaurant's decor and ambiance are high end, it seems woefully out of place in this locale. It was a beautiful day and we chose to eat outside on the deck. The view of the golf course was pretty but the service was sloooowww. It was only us and one other party. I don't know what they would do if they actually had a dinner rush. Maybe throw up their hands and say make it yourself! The food was way over-seasoned and cold. A hot sandwich should actually be hot, not have sat around for 15 minutes. I think mine did. It was fairly disgusting. Would never recommend this place to anyone.

The Black Watch Room continues to be a great place to stop in for a flavorful dinner and relaxing night out. The patio is great with all this summer weather we are having right now as well.

I am a world traveler and have been to many, many restaurants. I find this place really reliable with consistently nice meals. Owner Kelley is a delight. New Chef continues to deliver quality meals across the board. Yes, this is at a golf course in a gorgeous club house.... But the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. I go often and enjoy it every time.

Ok, this place was recommended by a friend who is a food critic so I thought it would have been a great experience. First of all I will start with the positives. It is a beautiful restaurant with great views. That is about where it ends. The service was slow and the food was just ok and very expensive. My husband ordered the Delmonico which was supposed to be a 10oz Ribeye. It was maybe a 7oz Ribeye cut super thin. It was tough (he compared it to a rubber band), fatty and didn't taste all that great. When we told our waitress, she apparently went and told the owner who's response was "next time he comes in, tell him to order a fillet or another kind of steak that isn't such a tough cut"...as if he ordered the wrong kind of steak for his taste. He is a very experienced steak eater and definitely knows what a good Ribeye should taste like. Her response was rude and completely unexpected. Also, my crab cakes were made with canned flaked crab meat and not lump as they should have been. The 'house made' blue cheese dressing was mayonnaise and Roquefort and not very well blended. They charged $12.00 for a wedge salad! A martini will cost you a whopping $10.00 and their house wine is Corbet Canyon!!! Definitely not a high class establishment. It is one of those places with a fancy label but doesn't have the food or the service to back it up.
